CLUB TRYOUTS @ LAVA GIRLS

Our tryout process is very structured. There is a warm-up portion, followed by skills repetitions to show the athletes' grasp of fundamental techniques, followed by organized game-like scenarios.

At the end of tryouts, the Director will address the group of athletes and their parents, and after tryouts, the Director and coaches will be available for further conversation and discussion.

You might have heard about a regional registration tryout fee. We have details on this below. Please note that LAVA will not be checking at tryouts whether you have registered regionally; it is recommended, but not required.

Here are the details:

In 2020, USA Volleyball (USAV, the governing body for club volleyball nationally) asked that each athlete register within their region prior to tryouts - for player health protection and insurance purposes. Our region is the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA).

Prior to tryouts, it is recommended by USAV that athletes register on the SCVA website and pay a $20 regional registration tryout fee. This regional $20 registration fee (which is not a fee from LAVA) is part of your annual $65 USAV membership fee, which must be paid each year by families participating in club volleyball in a sanctioned region (like SCVA). Families pay via the SportsEngine platform of USAV.

This $20 amount is for player protection. It covers athletes in the event of injury or any other medical situation. Athletes who do not complete this might not be personally covered by USAV's insurance and other assorted medical protection.

If you are attending multiple tryouts for multiple clubs, you only need one USAV membership tryout registration. One registration covers you everywhere.
